Whether the Weather

This morning's weather report for small-town, MS:
7:45am - hot and sunny, 7:48am - muggy and hot, 7:50am - cool breeze on the wind,
7:51am - rain, 7:52am - thunderstorms, 7:50 something . . .I can't see my watch!

The weather in South Mississippi, in the summer, can change by the minute - too the extremes!!
Currently, we have fallen into the afternoon thunderstorm pattern. What's to enjoy about that? I love the smell of coming rain on the wind and the feel of the cool moist breeze on my face! It's relaxing to sit at home and listen to the steady drumming on the roof. Even Little Mister loves to watch the trees sway in the wind. Downpours, on the other hand, can be annoying, especially if you need to travel. Being able to see past the hood of your car is very important when you're driving.
We are forced to take the bad with the good, to whether the weather! However, it does make for a predictable time to teach/learn about looming weather changes. Carpe Diem!

Objective- Awareness of immediate surroundings (MS Early Learning Guidelines for Infants and Toddlers: Scientific Development, Notices and names characteristics of seasons and weather 3.2.1)

We used a piece of card stock and measured it into 4 equal sections. We used our foam letter stamps to label each section: Sunny, Rain, Windy and Cloudy. Sunny was a glitter pom-pom glued to the center and yellow rays drawn with a marker. Rain was blue sequins. Windy was glued on yarn in a swirl pattern. Cloudy was cotton balls. We used a clothes pin to clip onto the chart to correspond to the current weather conditions outside.

Use a clothes pin to attach for the "Daily Forecast"

Whether the weather be fine
Or whether the weather be not
Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not.
