Measuring with Dino Feet

I cut out some free-handed dinosaur feet shapes from a cardboard box. Little Mister painted them.
Oh my goodness, he had a hard time waiting for them to dry.
Finally, I threaded some ribbon in to tie them on his feet.
Now we were ready to stomp around.

After we stomped and roared for awhile, we decided to see how many stomps it would take to get across the playroom. He counted to 15 and I helped after that (21).
Once you stomp with Dino feet, I guess you can't get enough...
We measured the rug in the den, across the kitchen and even the front porch.
Fun way to introduce the concept of measurement!

Happy Stomping!

Fun Dino Facts:
*The word dinosaur comes from the Greek language and means ‘terrible lizard’. The word was coined by English paleontologist Richard Owen in 1842 and was meant to refer to Dinosaurs impressive size rather than their scary appearance.
*The first dinosaur to be formally named was the Megalosaurus, back in 1824.
*The smallest dinosaur was the Epidendrosaurus. When young, it was about the size of a sparrow.
*The largest dinosaur yet found has been the Argentinosaurus, which is believed to have been about 130 feet long and weighed more than 80 tons.
*Rather than being carnivores (meat eaters), the largest dinosaurs such as the Brachiosaurus and Apatosaurus were actually herbivores (plant eaters).
*To help fight meat eaters such as the Allosaurus or Spinosaurus, many plant eaters had natural weapons at their disposal. Examples of this include the spikes on the tail of the Stegosaurus and the three horns attached to the front of the Triceratops’s head shield.
*Dinosaur fossils have been found on every continent, even Antarctica.

  16. Awesome. We made something similar. Instead of using ribbon (because almost all my kids cannot tie shoes yet) we glued socks to ours. So this way they put them on themselves anytime they wanted to stomp like dinosaurs. The dollar stores are great for buying the socks. Just thought I would share. Mrs. Valerie
