Quick Note

Hi all.
Sorry I have been M.I.A. for so long.
My Momma has been in and out of the hospital for over a month now.
We thought the worst a few times and do not seem to be out of the woods yet!
She is currently quarantined with a bad respiratory virus and pneumonia.

Please keep our family in your prayers!
We hope to be back soon!

Cellophane, Mr. Cellophane - Simple Saturday

We painted today with some homemade watercolors. He really slathered it on! LOL! While the paper was still wet, we layed some crumpled up cellophane on top of our painting. We set it aside and let it dry. We then removed the cellophane and discovered the fun geometric shapes left on our paper.

Accidental Discovery:
Jacques Brandenberger, a Swiss chemist, was not trying to make something to cover your pork chops in 1908. He worked in a French textile firm and was looking for a way to make a stain proof tablecloth. He tried coating the cloth with a thin sheet of viscose film. No one would buy the tablecloths, but Brandenberger realized that the sheet of film held possibilities. It took him ten years to develop a machine that would produce what he named cellophane. He patented the production process and called the company La Cellophane. The name came from combining "cello," from cellulose, with "Phane," from the French word diaphane, which means transparent. Cellophane became available to the public in 1919. In 1927 a waterproof lacquer coating was developed that made it more useful. With the lacquer coating, cellophane could be used to package food, since it was airtight and waterproof.

Dr. Rylee's X-rays

If you have read this blog for any length of time, you may be familiar with my Little Mister's health issues. Recently we had another bone age X-ray done (along with tons of other tests). I used this simple craft I've seen online to kind of get him ready to have another "picture" taken of his hands.
I traced his hand with chalk on a black piece of construction paper. Then we used pieces of Q-tips and glued them down for bones.

Today we are headed over to Ochsner Children's Hospital in New Orleans to visit with the doctor and discuss some of the test results!

God Heals

Guess what we've been dealing with?
My house has the flu.

However, I know the greatest physician...
He is great with kids and is very comforting.
He makes house calls and is always on time.
He has healed all manner of disease and raised folks from the grave.
I'm sure he has an office near you!
Who is it, you ask?

Heart Hands - Valentine Card

Here is a simple and super cute card to make with your little ones for Valentines Day!
First, fold a piece of construction paper in half. Place your kiddos hand where the thumb and pointer finger are touching the fold of the paper. Then, trace their hand. Cut out the hand next , but be sure not to cut the connection of the fingers on the fold. Once you open the hand you should see a heart!
Glue the hands on another piece of paper and add a personal message! Ta-Da, You have a cute card to give to someone special for Valentine's Day.

Of course, Little Mister had a great time cutting and gluing the scrap pieces of paper. He managed to make several 'cards' of his own!
